Welcome to Appleton Kindergarten

Appleton Kindergarten is based in Dannevirke in the Tararua district. The kindergarten caters for children and their families from diverse cultural backgrounds. A number of other early education services are available in town, including family based homecare, childcare, Kohanga Reo, play centre and Dannevirke Central Kindergarten which operates school day hours.
At Appleton Kindergarten we aim to create an environment where teachers, parents and whānau  work in partnership to support and extend the learning and development of each child.
Our programme aims to assist all children to develop as confident and competent learners and communicators through a holistic approach. The teaching and learning programme is based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum – Te Whāriki. This includes planned activities and events based on individual and groups of children’s interests and strengths. While children are at Kindergarten a profile is compiled documenting the child’s learning and development. This includes their learning stories, photographs, special moments and artwork.
Appleton Kindergarten operates morning and afternoon sessions, morning for 4-5 year olds and afternoon for 2-4 year olds. Children starting and moving through to mornings is dependent on age and spaces available.
